The Department of English was established in 1966 with a purpose to enhance the linguistic and literary competencies among students. The department conducts UG course with English as Compulsory subject as well as at the special level. At the special level subjects as Introduction to Poetry and other forms of Literature, Drama, Short Stories, Fiction, Language Studies, Phonetics and Literary Theory and Criticism are prescribed with reference to Indian Literature, British Literature, American Literature and Commonwealth Literature. The continuous efforts by the department are aimed at encouraging students to undertake and enhance their competencies. In 2007, the department introduced Post Graduate course with Indian Writing in English, American Literature as elective subjects. Along with regular faculties, Dr. M. S. Tamboli and Prof K. M. Pote work as visiting Faculty. The department also has established Digital Language Laboratory and conducts various programmes as Remedial Coaching, Film Festival, and Grammar Coaching for Competitive Examinations etc. The department flourished under the guidance of Late Prof. A.Q.R. Shaikh and Late Dr V.D. Solat. Now, Dr. G. P. Dhakane, Prof. D. D. Palwe and Prof V. B. Aher are working in the department.
